What Causes Swelling In The Face And Fingers After Travelling?

default
Posted on Fri, 22 Jul 2016
Question: I returned from a week trip in Havana yesterday. We didn't get much rest, ate local food, and enjoyed too much rum. While there my fingers and face started swelling gradually. I tried drinking plenty of bottled water. Returning, I've had diarrhea that is now tar colored, my upper and lower abdomen is cramping at regular intervals, I feel tired and am sweating more, my eyes are dry and my nose is running with occasional sneezing. I'm fit, 44, 5-11 and 160 pounds. I have two young children at the house, and my wife travelled with me, ate the same food, drank more rum, and she's 30. Is this just fatigue and dehydration? Or should I be worried about being around the kids?

Brief Answer:
investigation and evaluation at the earliest.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
Your problem is unlikely due to dehydration rather you may be harboring something worrisome. It can be a gut infection, bleeding in gut or kidneys being affected.
You should immediately visit a physician and get investigated.
It must be diagnosed fast and managed accordingly because at times such problem may be sinister one.
I hope the advise will be helpful for you.
Take care.

Is Cipro recommended until the am? It's 10:30 pm here and I have a recent prescription that I got for the trip just in case? Or is azithromycin better?

Did you get my follow up question?

Brief Answer:
Doctor's opinion after evaluation is no1

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back.
Ideal way is to get evaluated first and then follow the advise but if you want to take at all then Cipro is more appropriate.
Take care
