What Causes Swelling In Eye, Eyelid And Under Eye Area?
Question: My daughter's eye is completely swollen shut with swelling on lid and under eye area. She did have crying bout this past week and this happened day after. She did see doctor who has her on antibiotics, however, blocked tear duct was not addressed. If it is a blocked tear duct, what should she do about it? Many thanks.

I appreciate your concern
Based on the image you uploaded and the history which you described, it appears to be preseptal cellulitis. A similar presentation can occur in allergic drug reactions. Antibiotics and benedryl is the appropriate treatment at the moment. The antibiotics can be given intravenously if there is slow or no response to the oral ones.
If there is a blocked tear duct then it needs to be assessed whether it's acute or chronic and whether there is associated dacrocystitis. Probing and syringing can also be advised though not in the acute phase. For the time being NSAIDS are used to control the inflammation and help the drainage by countering inflammation.
