What causes swelling in arm around bruising after injury while on Coumadin?

Question: Is fell onto concrete from a chair. The lower part of my arm was severely bruised but that has subsided. I was on Coumadin at the time, from aortic valve replacement last year. This accident was 3+ weeks ago. About a week ago the entire arm swelled and I was told by family Dr to use heat. It has not helped. I have nerve damage in that arm from a previous injury.

you need to rule out any fracture by x ray
avoid heat as it increase swelling further, instead use ice fomentation
you can use pain killer like voveron which also helpful to reduce swelling
once fracture rule out and problem persists, see a rheumatologist to rule out RSD which can cause swelling after trauma and it is due to nerve injury
