What Causes Swelling And Pain Around The Stitches On The Penis Post Circumcision?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Aug 2016
Question: I was circumcised 13 days ago. Not a single stitch (dissolvable) has come out and none appear even close to ready. In fact, over the last few days the stitches on the left side have been inflamed and extremely painful to the touch. The pain lasts for a few minutes after touching before fading away.

I don't know if this is normal or how long the stitches are really supposed to remain in place.

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM .
Read and reviewed your query and health concerns.

My opinion-

In the given situation- You would need manual removal, as the remaining of those absorbing stitches used are yet to fall off, on its own.

The disturbance from irritable stitches could be reduced, if daily diluted Chlorhexidine wash is given locally after 5 days time, by which wound infection comes under total control with essential antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines.

These stitches would usually be dissolved and would fall off in 1-2 weeks time.
Local swelling induced from absorbing stitches, would resolve by-2-3 additional weeks after stitches fall.

Do's Suggested-
Consultation with the operating Surgeon,
Chlorhexidine-dilute solution cleaning for 4-5 days time would be needed before these stitches fall off.

Tab anti-inflammatory-like Motrin 400 mg 2-3 times per day x 4-5 days would keep pain under control.

Antibiotics as per the post-operative prescription .
Tab containing Trypsin/Chymotrypsin (eg. Chymoral forte)-1 x 3 times a day x 10 days ,
All medicines to be taken under script and cover from family doctor there.

Further suggestions in this regard would need more information /investigations after getting more details from You.
