What Causes Suicidal Thoughts While On Lexapro?
Question: I am taking 10mg of Lexapro I have been feeling off and on about hurting myself. Doesnt last long. What should I do
Brief Answer:
Consultation
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.
Both Lexapro and the disease it treats, major depressive disorder, have been associated with suicidal thinking. If you are having these thoughts, you need to take this very seriously, and either call 911 or visit your nearest emergency room immediately. There, you will be evaluated by a medical professional to see how best you can be helped immediately. Whether this involves hospitalization, a medication change, more frequent doctor visits -- something has changed, may be dangerous to your health, and needs to be evaluated immediately. Do not delay, and visit an emergency room immediately for evaluation.
