What Causes Sudden Swelling In The Right Temple?

default
Posted on Fri, 15 Jul 2016
Question: Hi Sir,
From last 3 months, I am feeling that my right part of temple (i.e. part above ear) is swelled from inside because I felt right part above the temple (i.e. above right ear) is bigger than left part of the temple.
I have gone through internet & while searching for this behaviour, its showing the disease name "Temporal arteritis". I have all the symptoms of "Temporal arteritis". Please help me on this. Please suggest which kind of reports I needs to do? & to whom I have to consult for this ?

Brief Answer:
No temporal arteitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having over left temple.

As such, temporal arteries will not show any swelling. It's a one of the differential diagnoses with high esr and eye symptoms which is commonly seen at the age of 50 years.

I suggest you to do esr (blood test), CT scan of brain with carotid Doppler of neck vessels and eye consultation to rule out the cause for your head- ache.

Do not worry, it's not a temporal arthritis.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do
not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for reply. I am getting pain below eyes sometimes & sometimes eyes got heavily too. Do I need to concern for this to eye specialist as per your answer?

ESR - blood test & CT brain with Carotid Doppler of neck vessels will help me to find which kind of medical problem? Will it show any swelling inside scalp ? Actually I mentioned earlier that I am feeling that part above the right ear is swallowed from inside as I feels part above the right ear is bigger than part above left ear. I have asked to neurologist for this abnormality so he said MRI / CT scan will not show swelling if its on blood vessels, soft tissues, fat, bones, nerves, muscles then how I will identify my swelling here.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your reply.

I did E.S.R. report (Westergren Method) only & it shows values of 28 mm at 1 hour. It is high when as compared to reference range 0-20. why there is abnormality in E.S.R. Values? & how to reduce this & makes it to the perfect level.

Even now from last 7 days, i am suffering from herpix problem. The skin specialist told me about this. It is giving me very burning sensation on left - back side. Is it due to E.S.R. abnormality?

Brief Answer:
No temporal arteritis

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Yes. It is possible. your skin infection could be the cause for rise of ESR.

As such, It is a common hematology test and non-specific measure of inflammation. it's value should be counted if used in conjunction with other tests, such as C-reactive protein. Any way, it's ruled out ( you do not have temporal arteritis, where very high levels are seen).

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.

Dear Sir,

Now one more problem occurred with me. I have got some twisting of skin behind ear i.e. skin joined from ear to our head (exactly in middle of this). I have used only relaxyl gel & after that i got this. Please suggest on this. You can also find the location for twisting of skin in an image attached.

Brief Answer:
Looks normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

I did not find any abnormally in your image. Up and down creases are common due to cartilage of auricle ( external ear). Unless, if there is any pain or redness or itching, you need to ignore this issue.

Take care.
