Brief Answer:

Can be due to nerve compression.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The inability to uncurl the fingers of hand with pain can be due to a nerve compression at the level of cervical spine. A stroke is less likely.

A nerve compression is also associated with numbness or tingling in the fingers. In case the pain is severe or there is a constant tingling then consulting a neurologist for a detailed examination will be helpful.

i went to E R they ran many tests blood, xrayed my left elbow and my left hand they scanned my head and my cervical neck area 9 i have had surgery on three vertebrae in neck/ spine 4 years ago fusion. they could not diagnose any reason for the curling suddenly in my pinky my ring and some in third long finger. My index and thumb seem uninvolved. i am seeing a hand specialist today, the E R Doctor, forced my fingers to uncurl then left my hand palm down but it would not go flat. He immediately splinted my hand and forearm to elbow. does this give you any new thoughts?
