Question: The other day for the first time I had an episode, while driving. This episode was marked by racing pulse, followed by a very short black out ( 2-3 seconds). I took my foot off the gas and the road behind was empty. So no collision,

I am 63 in great health. I have very mild vertigo and am getting over a bad leg break last year.

I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
This can be cardiac arrhythmia followed by syncopal attack.
Another possibility may be seizure.
You need to get examined by a neurologist and cardiologist.
ECG and EEG is required.
Brain imaging may be done.
Blood pressure should be measured and should be in control.
