What Causes Sudden Lightheadedness, Nausea And Weakness?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Dec 2015
Question: Hi. Last week I was sitting reading. I suddenly felt very light headed, then nauseous, then I was so weak I had to put my head down on the desk. I couldn't move and could only utter guttural one word answers to a friend. My throat started to feel really constricted and breathing became difficult for about 10 minutes she managed to lift my arm and place a straw in my mouth and I slowly sipped some apple juice. I slowly started coming right and the whole attack from beginning to end (up and walking) lasted only 45 minutes. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Can be due low low blood glucose levels or low blood pressure.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for consulting me at virtual clinic. Your trust in HCM means a lot to me as a Physician.
I have completely reviewed your health query, and can well realize all those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will give extend my expertise to solve the problems.

It may be due either to low blood sugar levels or low blood pressure and is very common. I don't have your medical history as if you are a known diabetic or not. If not, you need to get yourself screened for that. If diabetic, take your medicines on time.

You also need to consult your Primary Care Physician for screening of any Blood Pressure issues as it may also cause such issues.

Another option being last but not least is the indication of a future Stroke (A Cerebrovascular disease) and is called as TIA. It sometimes causes such problems as you felt especially the speech issues. It is manageable with medications and by adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Your Physician will have to go for the tests to rule out all the possibilities mentioned above and if he will feel it necessary, may refer you to some specialist accordingly. Make an appointment with your Primary Care Physician for a thorough evaluation.

Hope I answered all of your queries. Let me know if you have further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you with my expert opinion.
