What Causes Stomach Pain Inspite Of Having Hernia Operation?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Jul 2014
Question: I am going in for a hernia operation on the 18 XXXXXXX Yesterday I had severe stomach pains and went to the emergency room. They did a blood test and a CT, and they found nothing, no blockage of any sort. I have been a little worried because I am constipated and I thought the CT would pick up any sort of blockage and it was all clear. I asked the ER doctor about the pain I had experienced and he said that maybe the hernia had moved. I have had no pain with this hernia, and have decided to have an operation only because of the bulkiness. I bought some suppositories today and plan on using them to make sure that nothing is blocked when I have my surgery. What do you think about all this? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be serious

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for asking HCM,

I understand your concern. Regarding to your symptoms and what you have written, this pain you felt was not dangerous. If it was something bad, than the pain would progress. Constipation has not necessarily have to be connected with hernia. A real obstruction caused by hernia would lead to a very severe condition called acute abdomen, which also progresses.
My suggestion is to try at first with food, try to eat smaller amounts with fruit and vegetables. Drink also enough fluids, 1.5-2 L per day.
Suppositories are something you can use, but be careful and discuss this with your GP. Do not take a lot of them, especially preoperational period.
If you feel any kind of pain, fever or see that your hernia changes color, visit ER immediately.

I hope this answer was helpful to you.
