What Causes Stomach Pain Along With Diarrhoea?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Mar 2015
Question: I have recently been having stool that smells like mild or mildew and I am having pain like colitis but without frequent bowel movements or diarrhea. Can you make any suggestions as to what this might be. It doesn't seem to be any specific food and the pain stays the same, only getting worse after bowel movements. It seems to affect my whole colon because the pain is spread along that area, but a bit more in the right colon and transverse colon. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
5-day course of medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood your problems.

To recapitulate: Recently having stools smelling mild or mildew - pains like colotis -no frequent bowel movements or diarrhea - no specific food - pain stays same - but worst after bowel movements - whole colon - bit more on right and transverse part - wants suggestions as to what it may be ....

Thanks for such an elucidate history which is self explanatory.
This is colitis only. As you rightly say it is difficult to know the reasons. In such a situation I would like to advise the following :
-Tests of blood, urine and stool- routine, microscopy, occult blood to get a clue about possible diagnosis and to rule out diabetes and such problems as a routine.
-To take a 5-day course of antibiotic, metronidazole, probiotic and an anti-spasmodic on an empirical basis or as per the reports.
-Ultrasonography of the abdomen is not a really god investigation for colon although some Radiologist can tell a few things with the help of high resolution probes.
-If there is complete resolution, nothing more needs to be done other than observation on your part to see what tare the factors that caused this and stress and anxiety also have some part to play in colitis in some cases.
-If the problem persists further tests of colonoscopy may be needed.

I hope this answer helps you to get started and get cure / investigated further.

Please fell free to ask for more if you need to.
