Brief Answer:
Could be related to mesalamine, discuss with doc for another alternative...

Detailed Answer:
Hello there,

I read your message carefully and I understand your concern.

You suffer from ulcerative colitis and recently you have got out of the hospital because of a severe ulcerative colitis attack. You notice that the mesalamine calms you only for one hour then the cramps come back.

Mesalamine is an anti-inflammatory drug that is used to cure ulcerative colitis, in your case it is used topically.

Mesalamine can cause a serious reaction, and many of the symptoms of this reaction are similar to the symptoms of ulcerative colitis. It is difficult to understand if you have a drug reaction or an episode of symptoms of your disease. Stomach pain or cramping is the most common drug effect.

If this did not happen during your stay in the hospital, I advise you to see your doctor to get further evaluation in order to distinguish if this is a reaction to the drug or another ulcerative colitis attack.

If side effect from mesalamine topical is confirmed, then, other alternatives (anti-inflammatory) should be considered. From what you are saying, I don't think your ulcerative colitis got worse, but a side effect from mesalamine.

Hope it helped.
Let me know if you have further questions.

Brief Answer:
Following methods to ease Prednisone palpitations..

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

The long term use of steroids like Prednisone are often associated with increased blood pressure. If really high , then high blood pressure can be shown clinically with palpitations as one of many other symptoms.

So, if I was your caring doctor would advise to monitor your blood pressure and sugar levels and record the results for future evaluation.

The only solution to the side effects you are experiencing is to stop Prednisone. Can discuss further with your doctor to decide for other alternatives or to change the dosage.

Anxiety is always associating ulcerative colitis and along its treatment. Trying to calm yourself down, get fresh air, keep your legs elevated when laying or sitting, take chamomile tea or other calming herbal supplements like passiflora, valerianna, etc

Hope this helps
