What Causes Stomach Discomfort And Gas After Drinking Milk?

Posted on Tue, 31 May 2016
Question: I'll get right to the point. I'm having issues with my stomach. It's going on three days now, but it all started one morning when I downed a bowl of cereal and some supplements. I began to feel a discomfort in my stomach a few hours later, as the day progressed it got worse. I should say that anytime I drink milk I get a little gassy, but I was in a rush. The cereal (raison brand). The supplements (liver powder, opti-men, creatine mono, probiotic and dhea). Opti-Men is a multi vitamin. As I said it got worse as the day went on, but at some point later that evening I went to the bathroom and I'd say 10% of my stool was dark. What I'm not sure about is if I'd already taken the Pepto-Bismol or not, but I did take it that same night. The next day my stomach felt better but constant feeling of needing to go to bathroom was present. When I'd go to the bathroom my stool become more loose and watery, and that progressed to diarrhea. Only this time and each time afterward my stool was dark. It was either dark green or black, and at one point I'd seen what looked like white clumps In my stool. Anyways It's the third day now and my stomach feels better, but it's absolutely not at 100%. There's some bloating and small amount of discomfort, but even odder is the excess saliva that's being produced in my mouth. It kept me up all night. I've continued taking Pepto from time to time, and my stool is still dark, but no diarrhea. I have no other symptoms with anything else. I'm hoping this well pass because I don't have health insurance. I'm wondering what can be done. I've thought of taking a laxative to push out whatever is left irritating my stomach, but I don't want make anything worse. I do feel I'm getting better but the excess saliva and bloating are annoying. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Might be due to gastroenteritis, cap omez 20 mg, stool routine, probiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Welcome.
I have gone through your query.
Is there any blood in the stool?
Do you have any pain abdomen?

In my clinic I would have asked you to go for stool routine examination and based on the report of the investigation, management would have been decided.

It might be due to gastroenteritis, so presently I would have suggested you to avoid spicy food, alcohol and smoking if you do. Drink lot of water, eat food rich in fibres, add more vegetables to your diet and avoid meat for few days. Curd is beneficial, and you can take probiotics like sporolac or ecobion it will be beneficial. Capsule omeprazole 20 mg once daily empty stomach, half an hour before breakfast for a week. With this measures, you should be fine.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
Take care.
