What Causes Stomach Cramps Inspite Of Being Diagnosed With Ovarian Cyst?

default

Question: Hi,

I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cyst some 5 months back. At that time I used to have intense pain after my periods were over for 10-15 days. In my ultrasound , a cyst was detected. My doctor gave me a pain killer and asked to monitor size/growth of cyst for 3-4 months. I had another ultrasound done recently , and although my pain has reduced over period of time , the size of cyst has increased.

I do have pain for 3-4 days after my periods are over , but its bearable (minor). But it might increase sometimes if I exercise or do rigorous walk in that time period. It goes away after 4-5 days.

I am uploading both my reports (previous Sep 2014 and latest XXXXXXX 2015). Please advice on suitable course of action here onwards. Do you suggest any medication or surgery is the only option?

Thanks & Regards,
XXXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You can monitor every 3 months.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
I have seen both the reports. Earlier the cyst was of size 4.5cm but it was a hemorrhagic cyst which is usually painful. Now the cyst is slightly larger but it is now an anechoic simple cyst. A cyst of this size is painless and usually does not need a treatment if it is not symptomatic.
If you are having regular periods and the pain is bearable then you only need to monitor the size of the cyst every 3 months. In case the cyst is persistent or is increasing in size then do get your serum CA-125 levels evaluated and consider getting it surgically removed.
Persistent simple ovarian cysts larger than 5 cm and complex ovarian cysts should be removed surgically.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Is there no medication available for this? Another doctor on HEalthcare magic site suggested hormonal/birth control pills. However , she also mentioned the side effects of it.

Brief Answer:
You can avoid the hormonal pills if your periods are regular.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Hormonal birth control pills will help in regularizing your periods and will decrease the formation of such cysts. These are associated with side effects. If you have no symptoms then it is best to just wait and keep it closely monitoring every 3 months instead of worrying and taking hormonal tablets to reduce it.
Hope my answer is helpful.
Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.
