What causes stomach cramps and vaginal bleeding post abortion?

Question: I had an abortion on Thursday, so about 5 days ago, but cramps and bleeding started Saturday and won't go away. The blood is of normalish flow if it were to be my period, but it's not, and the blood is bright red rather than dark. Is this normal?

Generally, some amount of bleeding is normal for upto a week after an abortion, so this could be normal, but I need more details.
