What Causes Stinging Pain In The Toe?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Sep 2016
Question: I have a stinging pain in my left second toe that lasts about 5 sec, very sharp, then completely subsides for 3=5 minutes. Last night it woke me up as a dull pain, but is worse today. The pain does not respond to ice, arnicane or epsom salts soak. The toe is red but no blisters. Do I need to seek ER treatment on this holiday weekend?

Brief Answer:
Many possible causes. Needs further investigation

Detailed Answer:
Hello there.

Thanks for the query.

The pain could be due to superficial injury like a corn or deep due to infection, and even bone problems.

It would be helpful to apply warm packs to the affected region twice a day. Use soft footwear like Micro cellular rubber (MCR) footwear. Your can take Tablet IBUPROFEN 400 mg twice a day after meals for 3 days for pain relief.

You can consult an Orthopaedician or Foot and Ankle surgeon in this regard. No need for emergency intervention if you aren't existing worsening pain.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
