Posted on Fri, 23 May 2014
Question: up off and on lastnite with a stabbing pain in middle of upper abdomen (have noticed a little more acid last week) have had a few stomach cramps.....feel a little less spunk than I normally do. Took a Pepcid Complete this morning, seem to be better for just a couple of hours. With History of ulcers am concerned what to do to treat these symptoms or do I need to go to a care center to get tested for H.Pylori?

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Health-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

Stabbing pain in upper abdomen responding to antacid like Pepcid suggest the possibility of Acid peptic disease. If this is your first episode there is no cause for concern.
I would suggest you the following which will definitely help

1. Proton pump inhibitor like Pantoprozole 40 mg taken twice a day will be helpful.
2. Avoid spicy and oily food
3 Ensure good intake of water : 2 to 3 liter of water per day.
4. Regular intake of meals

Following are the indication for getting Endoscopy to assess the severity of acid peptic disease and to rule out Helicobacter Pylori
1. Symptoms not responding to antacid
2. Recurrent symptom

In case you require any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
