What Causes Stabbing Pain In Left Side Of Ribs?

Question: Hello. I have been having pain in my left side. The pain started about 2 weeks ago. At first it was located in the middle of my ribs and my iliac crest. The pain was dull and radiating around to the back. I thought that it was probably a muscle spasm due to the way I was sleeping or poor posture. For about a week the pain started to gradually worsen and I was getting a little stiff in the area. About 4 days ago I notice the pain started to move lower around the top of the iliac crest radiating to the front. 2 days ago I woke out of my sleep with excrutiating pain in my left lower abdominal area. I thought it was probably a gas bubble so I tried moving around a bit and bending my knees but it was extremely painful to move and put pressure on my stomach. After about 10 mins the pain subsided and I was able fall back to sleep but the pain still lingers. What scared me into seeking advise is what happened last night. I was just lying down and I started to have another painful episode, this time it was more in lower left pelvic region and very painful to put pressure on. Along with the stabbing pain, all of a sudden I felt a warm feeling run throughout my body and I began to feel lightheaded and nausea. I was starting to get shaky and It felt like I was about to pass out. I live alone so I made my way down to my car to be in public sight. The pain would not let up so I decided to see if I could make it to a hospital but by the time I got there the pain had subsided and so did the other symptoms. I don't have insurance so I am very reluctant to see a doctor. I went back home. There is no blood in my urine and its not cloudy but I do feel pressure on my bladder. It also feels like I'm not emptying my bladder all the way. It doesn't burn when I pee but it hurts my pelvis to push pee out or pass gas. Its also very stabbing when I cough, laugh or sneeze. The pain continues to linger non stop with occasional painful episodes. Without an episode the lingering pain is about a 6. During an episode the pain can be more than a 10 and feel similar to contractions but only on the left. I have been nursing a stubborn boil in the left side inguinal area for 2 weeks but I don't think it has anything to do with it. Its draining now. I have been taking Ibuprofen for that pain and now for this pain. Im a 33yr old black female. 5'5 180lbs. Was in the hospital last year (1/13) for a kidney infection on my left side. Had an abortion at 16 weeks(12/13). History of BV. Negative for STD's. Not pregnant. No sexual intercourse in the last month. My last period cycle was 2 1/2 weeks early (9/12-16). That worried me. No fever. Blood pressure and heart rate normal. I smoke but rarely drink. Mostly drink water all day. Bad eating habits. Don't travel. Just got over a cold. Used home remedies to cure it but I still have a lingering cough (which is not pleasant at this time). I'm a Massage Therapist that works a lot I hope this information is enough for me to get helpful advise. Please help. The pain is starting to affect my work and everyday living. Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
All answers depend on size of stone.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

All answers depend on size of stone. If its stone of size 4-5 mm , it will pass without damage. If its 8-10 mm stone still it can pass if its width is small. No damage as such will be there .

But if its larger stone, then it won't pass and cause damage.

So ideal first step is to get ultrasound done. This will confirm diagnosis and help you decide what is to be done.

Regards.
