What Causes Splinter Hemorrhages On The Finger Nails?
Question: I have been getting splinter hemorrhages on my finger nails on and off for the last 2 years. I trim my nails very low but I also have Crohn's disease. I have foot pain, soreness and muscle aches that come and go. Also, I'm on Entivyo for Crohn's and have since August 2014. All my blood counts are good, and liver function, CBC, Sed Rate, C Diff, etc. are normal. I am concerned that this has something to do with warts on my feet but I had those removed and an immunization to HPV. I don't know if the hemorrhages mean more than what they actually are. I was tested for Lyme's, RA and Lupus with ANA blood tests and everything was normal. Not sure what to do?

Trauma is the most common cause of splinter haemorrhages. They are most frequently encountered on distal nail bed and on the fingers of the dominant hand.
They can occasionally occur in completely healthy people.
They are also seen in systemic disorders like Bacterial endocarditis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, thrombocytopenia, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, certain skin diseases like psoriasis, pemphigus and dermatitis.
Since your tests are normal so all these conditions are excluded.
You can get your thyroid function tests, blood sugar levels and blood pressure checked to rule out hyperthyroidism, diabetes and hypertension respectively.
It these also come normal there is no need to worry as appearance of these splinter haemorrhages can be a normal occurrence in your case.
