Brief Answer:
Sour throat can be from lying down for long duration or due to medicines

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Sorry to hear that you have hurt yourself and hope that you are recovering well. If there is significant pain in ribs and difficulty in breathing then I suggest clinical examination and if required then a chest x ray.

2. The sour taste in mouth is unlikely to be related to be directly related to your injury. However if you have acid reflux disease and have been in lying down position for longer durations following your injury then that can be causing sourness in the back of the throat. Please do write in if you have been taking any other medicines for other conditions as some of them can cause sour throat.

3. In the event of rib injury, fracture bruising or mild injury, no active medical intervention is required. The injury usually heals with supportive care and rest.

4. Supportive care means taking over the counter pain relievers, ointments and sprays depending on the intensity of pain. Paracetamol (Tylenol) or ibuprofen can be taken orally after meals. Ointments and sprays containing pain reliever and muscle relaxant can be used.

5. Intentional deep breathing and coughing may be avoided if it gets painful. Ice packs can be applied for short duration of 15 to 20 minutes over the hurting areas. Heavy physical activity is to be avoided. Rib injuries usually heal in a month or two.

Hope your query is answered.
