Posted on Wed, 1 Jun 2016
Question: I have had soreness in the back of my mouth/throat for the last couple of weeks. Have had nasal congestion and allergies for weeks. Soreness seems to move around in my mouth. Much better in mornings but grows more uncomfortable later in the day.
I am also having some dental problems with my upper back molars....make have cracked a crown. Seeing DDS on Tuesday.

Brief Answer:
Laryngopharyngeal reflux can be the reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to Laryngopharyngeal reflux. Acid reflux due to this can cause soreness in back of mouth and throat. Allergies can worsen due to this problem also. In such case taking proton pump inhibitors like Esomeprazole (Nexium) and motility enhancers like Domperidone will be helpful.

Nasal decongestants like Xylometazoline (otrivin) nasal spray and taking antihistamines like cetirizine (zyrtec) will be helpful for nasal congestion and allergy. If there is no improvement then consultation with ENT specialist is well appreciated

Dental problems like sensitivity also can give soreness with irradiation . So better to have consultation with dentist, In case of such problems root canal treatment will give fast improvement.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Laryngopharyngeal reflux most likely.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

Wine also can stimulate laryngopharyngeal reflux. So in such case this can be the most likely cause. Taking proton pump inhibitors like esomeprazole ( Nexium ) and motility enhancers like domperidone will be helpful for this. Dental problem also should be cleared. In case of sensitivity you will feel relieved in first visit itself most likely.
