What Causes Soreness And Itching In The Eye?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Jan 2017
Question: Four days ago, I noticed that my left eye was sore and scratchy. It felt like Pink Eye. The next day, my ear itched inside on the same side. For two more days, the left side of my face (cheek and under my jaw) has felt bruised. There is no discoloration, but to the touch, it feels like it is bruised, particularly under the jaw. It feels swollen to me, but it only looks slightly swollen. Nobody else would notice probably. My eye and ear are still itchy. I have no idea what this is. I am a healthy 67 year old female. The only medication I take is for high cholesterol and I take medication for my arthritis as needed, which is not very often.

Brief Answer:
Probably an allergy!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed your symptoms fully and this is suggestive of an allergy. The migratory itchy nature in the absence of any signs of an active infections are very much suggestive. I suggest you take 25mg of Benadryl as many as three times daily until symptoms are fully controlled. Also, look among your commonly used items to see if there is any new addition so that you can actually help with that.

I wish you well. Keep me posted with your progress.

over night, I developed a lesion on the side of my nose on the left side that is oozing clean fluid. It is very painful. Does this change anything?

Also I have been using a homeopathic medication on a skin tag I have on my forehead.

Thank you for your help. I ended up going to Urgent Care because I was in a lot of pain and I was scared because the lesion on my nose was quickly spreading. I was diagnosed with Shingles. So, I'm on medication now and hopefully this will resolve soon. Thanks for your help.

I know you were at a disadvantage because you did not have all the information when I sent in my query. I did not have a rash until the next morning. But I was curious as to why and allergy would affect only one side of my face? I wish it had been an allergy because shingles is no fun at all! Thank you for your follow up response.
