What Causes Sore Throat, Coughing Up Of Grey Phlegm And Fever?
Question: My same age 84 year old lady friend is experiencing a continued sore throat, grey phlegm, coughing, slight fever, and some nose draining...as would be expected from a bad cold. A friend recommended a product called AIRBORNE or possibly ZCAM for her to use?..do either of those products really work, before we purchase " just another cold cure"... Your professional opinion please...(:-)). XXXXX. XXXXXXX

There is no unequivocal evidence that either Airborne or Zicam shortens the recovery time from a cold. They may give some symptomatic relief.
Plenty of warm fluids like soups and adequate rest would help.
If she has yellow/green sputum, high fever, chest pain or breathing difficulty, it would be better for her to see a doctor and have herself examined, investigated and treated with appropriate medicines.
Wish her a quick recovery.

Thank You For The Clear Understanding of my friend's medical situation. I took her to see a doctor today and he verified there was no strep throat, he called for an x-ray, which cleared any possibility of pneumonia, he clearly diagnosed her condition as one that is currently circulating and he felt that nature would clear all symptoms in a few days; in case she felt the need, the Doctor prescribed an antibiotic that she could take, if she felt the need, to expedite her recovery. He actuallynfollowed all the suggested actions noted in your e-mail Doctor's evaluation. Thanks for offering this very responsible service, at such a reasonable cost.
