default
Posted on Wed, 5 Nov 2014
Question: I had an abscess tooth pulled 2 wks ago without recieving antibiotics before or after the tooth was pulled. To make a long story short, been back to dentist twice already. Had bone cut out and had stitches. Havent been able to brush my teeth as well from the pain and swelling. Today I gave a good brush and decided to brush the plaque or whatever it is gathering on my tongue then noticed it hurt so I flipd the brush to the tongue side . When I opened my mouth there was quite a bit of blood on my tongue. Tongue is still sore and losing taste buds could it have somthing to do with the infection

I ahve bren using a moith was prescribed by dentist that has 12% chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse. I did have a blister of sort under my tongue after I went back the stitches. am currently still taking the antibiotic. it only bled once so this morning I was gentle at brushing my teeth and tongue. also being since my tongue is very raw

Brief Answer:
Advised multivitamins supplements.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for reply.

As per the details provided to me,it appears to be an apthous ulcer. This is common phenomenon seen with nutritional deficiency of vitamin b complex and especially vitamin B12.

Please start taking them regularly for one months. You will find the ulcer heals completely within a week or so.

Continue with your oral hygiene practice.Gentle cleaning is recommended in every part of mouth. There should be no food debris left, which can accumulate bacterias and plaque on teeth and tongue.

Over usage of mouthwash is not recommended. You can do warm saline rinse as an alternative.

If you find it very painful please apply ointment Dologel three to four times daily and be stress free.Take rich and nutritious diet with plenty of fluids.

This will definitely heal,in case you do not find any improvement after a week please go to dentist for biopsy.Let me know for further doubts.

Thanks.
Takecare.
