What Causes Snapping Sensation In The Left Arm?

default
Posted on Sat, 29 Apr 2017
Question: Hello. My email is YYYY@YYYY . I would like to know how quickly one needs to get help if he has torn a tendon. Working on my car's headlight and turning screws I felt a snapping sensation in my left arm about 2 1/2 inches below the acromioclavicular joint. There was some pain at first which subsided. Minutes later I noticed if I turn my hand palm up and lift my hand upward with resistance from the other hand, there is pain where the snap occurred. It may be a bruise or shock and may be fine tomorrow. I wanted to wait until morning to see, as I am very tired and want to sleep. I just am wondering if 8 or 10 hours are going to make a difference if there is a tear or something like that. Thank you in advance.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry about

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

From the history it does not seem to be a torn tendon or anything serious.

This may be just a sprain or a inflammation of a tendon near the acromio-clavicular joint causing painful movements.

Given proper rest, you should be fine within next 2-3 days.

Take analgesic anti inflammatory tablets like ibuprofen/paracetamol,apply local gel with hot fomentation.

Avoid sleeping on the affected side or lifting anything heavy.

If the pain does not subside within the next 3 days, then you should consult a orthopedist.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.
