default
Posted on Mon, 24 Nov 2014
Question: Hi, I have small white dots on the corner of my lip. They aren't painful but the dots seem to be more inflamed recently, and appear to have become chapped. Not sure what this might be, they don't look like normal cold sore images I've looked at on the web. Any help would be great!

Brief Answer:
Angular Cheilitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,

I understand your query and concern.

This seems to be largely resembling features of Angular Cheilitis secondary to dietary deficiency of vitamins particularly Riboflavin.

Intake of this vitamin in the form of Tab.Riboflavin 10 mg twice daily for one month will be highly effective in improving your symptoms.

Apply Calamine lotion for soothening effect.

Bedtime Listerine mouth wash will be helpful.

Above mentioned drugs should be taken under strict medical prescription.

Hope i have answered your query at the moment,

Post further queries if any.

Thankyou

Thank you! I have also been having very mild rashes on the corner of my nose, near my forhead, and below my lip that all seem to appear like the symptoms of perioral dermatitis from the little research i have done. My eyes have also been randomly blood shot, especially in the morning, are these symptoms of riboflavin deficiency also? The rash below my lip has gone away but left a red pigmentation that hasnt gone away (as seen in the image below my lip).

Brief Answer:
Severe Chelo Glossitis-Riboflavin def associated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,

welcome again.

I have carefully gone through all your uploaded images.

This perioral dermatitis and blood shot eyes are certain features of riboflavin deficiency.

You seem to have severe angular cheilitis associated with Glossitis.

Along with Tab Riboflavin, you should also take tab Becozinc once day at bedtime for 60 days.

Note that these drugs should be taken only under strict medical supervision.

This will rapidly cure all your symptoms.

Have a protein rich food in the form of egg white and soybeans.

Hope I have answered your query.

Hello doctor! I have been following your instructions, but have been also placing cortisone-10 topical ointment on the corner of my lip, however after a few hours of placing the ointment on my lip, it turned into a huge puss filled white head that I regretably popped. Below are some current images of the corner of my mouth, and my tongue. Should I avoid using topical creams? Could this be a cold sore? Or just an infected area from popping the puss? Thank you so much for your help!

Brief Answer:
Bacterial superinfection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
welcome back.

Its absolutely not safe to apply steroidal ointments on such ulcers as it can lead to aggravation and secondary superadded infection.

This could also be a cold sore.

I strongly recommend you to stop this cortisone cream once for all.

The pus which is bacterial super infection can be treated by antibiotics like augmentin 625 twice a day for 5 days along with tab valacyclovir 1gm twice day for 7 days.
This therapy can completely effective against pus infection as well as cold sore

Consult your doctor for strict medical prescription of above drugs.

Post your further queries, if any.
Thank you.
