What Causes Small Red Spots On The Back Of Hands?

Posted on Wed, 10 Jun 2015
Question: I get small wine red spots on the back of my hands. They usually fade in a few days. I think they are bruises, but they must happen very easily because I do not know when they happen. The question is are they a symptom of anything?

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Small spots that last few days ,most likely are bruises caused from the rupture of small blood vessels on skin. This can happen in minor injuries or can be spontaneous.
The skin on the back of the hands is very thin and with years it becomes very fragile.
If these spots happen only on the back of your hands ,it might not be of concern.
If this happens in other parts of your body (if you have spontaneous bruises even in minor injuries) it might be a sign that you might have a problem of blood coagulation. It doesn't indicate that major blood vessels in your body are fragile.
It would be a good idea to get them checked with your doctor and get some blood tests (coagulation profile) done just to be on the safe side.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any question.
