What Causes Small Raised Blister On Back Of The Hand?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Jun 2014
Question: I am concerned about the HSV virus. I just now noticed a small raised blister on the back of my hand. I do not recall getting pinched or anything recently, so I don't know why I have this blister.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of Contact Dermatitis OR Insect Bite

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have understood it. I have also looked at the Image

I would keep a possibility of either Insect Bite Hypersensitivity Or Contact Dermatitis (Possibly to poison ivy)

I could make out that there is an elevated streak (?blister) right beside (to the left) of the blister, at the base of the thumb which suggests to me that it is most likely either contact dermatitis OR Insect Bite Hypersensitivity.

Herpes usually presents as grouped, discrete blisters like a cluster of grapes.

I would suggest that you a apply a topical steroid+antibacterial combination ointment (e.g Flutivate+Mupirocin), twice daily for a few days.

Do you have any burning sensation Or itching over there?

Regards

The streak that you are referring to is actually a scar, however I appreciate the prompt response and taking all factors into thought. I do now remember having a rather unusual mosquito bite the other day at that spot. As I swatted the bug, no blood had smeared, but rather a a clear fluid.

Insect bite

Hi.

Thanks for your appreciation and providing additional information.

I think it would benefit from using a cream/ ointment which is a combination of a topical steroid and topical antibiotic. Use it twice daily for a few days.
