What Causes Small Dark Non-painful Spots On The Rim Of Glans Penis?

Posted on Thu, 25 Feb 2016
Question: Hello, please see my previous posts as this all relates to the same issue.

I continue to have the small dark dot on the rim of my glans penis that occasionally gets inflamed, usually after masturbation or other friction. (see photos). It has been present for over 3 months now, and its driving me nuts. No pain or itchiness or discharge or anything, but as it is a personal area i very much want to get rid of it.

As you can read, ive tried various antiobiotic and steroid creams and lotions, and while it does look a little better, nothing so far has healed it. My GP told me that theres nothing else i can do to treat it, other than moisturiser.

It was suggested on this site that the issue is an open comedone, and that i should treat it by using tretinoin cream for 3-4 weeks, however i have read some horror stories about what this cream does to the skin and i really, really do not want to put it on my penis.

I was wondering if perhaps i could have a second opinion on this... Does it look like a comedone to you? If so, is there a gentler way to heal this than the tretinoin cream? Or, is it maybe just a cut that hasnt healed (i admit that while i try not to masturbate too much for fear of aggrivating it, i give in once or twice a week).

Thank you so much for your time.

Brief Answer:
No reason to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello My Dear,

Thanks for contacting us with your query!
I am Dr V XXXXXXX a XXXXXXX Consultant Dermatologist and Venereologist.

I have studied the details and would be glad to help you in finding a solution to the concerns. Several patients develop same kind of feelings on encountering this situation but fortunately help is easy and effective always.

For someone attending with me personally, I would have taken a thorough history and conducted examination of lesions as well as general health and. In most cases, I would have advised as follows:

1 I have thoroughly gone through the previous exchange with my esteemed colleagues and the advice provided from time to time.I have examined all the four pics as well as some of the previous ones under magnification.

2 My view is that apart from skin being sensitive, which is a normal thing to encounter in several individuals that fall within normal range, there is nothing to worry about.

3 All that you need to do is to relax on this count and just maintain good hygiene which I expect that you already must be carrying out. Please avoid, at this stage, using any cream or antibiotic or Tretinoin or anti-come done preparation.I have had, at least in four figures, patients with similar concerns in the last three decades and none ever reported any problem due to this type of skin over glans penis after they were counseled on the same very lines as being done in the present case.

4 I assume that you are not a diabetic.

For hygiene, all that you need to do is to clean the area with plain water once a day, may be while you bathe, without soap/ disinfectants, or any other chemical.

You seem to be going to have perfect and normal healthy skin in the area.

Please make the best use of given information. I would be glad to answer any further questions from you.

Our best wishes, always!

Thank you! So, what is that little spot then, and why does the spot around it sometimes look inflamed?

Is it something that you expect will go away, in time?

Should i continue to use a moisturizing lotion, or should i just keep any foreign substance off of it entirely?

Brief Answer:
No action required, skin glands, normal, appear reddish after friction

Detailed Answer:
Hello My Dear

Thanks for writing in.

1 These are normal skin markings and skin glands that shine through the thin skin of this area and tend to appear as prominent after friction. Inflammation is accompanied by pain, redness, swelling, heat, etc which make this different from inflammation.

2 As this is a normal finding, therefore, these may show only slight variations without going away completely. In fact, their absence would be undesirable

3 It would be a personal choice to use moisturizer but, of course, the area should not be treated with any chemicals.

I will be glad to clear any more doubts.

Best wishes
