What Causes Slightly Swollen Blue Colored Vein On Left Inner Elbow?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Jul 2014
Question: my left inner elbow vein is slightly swollen and appears to be blueish in color, this started 2 wks ago i noticed from slight uncomfort feeling when i curled my sleeves on my shirt up. The vein appears like a small ball bulging/ popping out when i stretch my left hand . There is no redness, large swelling in my arm, just small vein popping up when i stretch my arm out. If i lay down its not visible its only when standing and sitting. The vein is on the outside (left) of my inner left elbow that i have the issue with.

Brief Answer:
normal. doppler to ruleout aneurysm

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I went through the query and understood your concern.

Relax. No need to worry for it as the veins will have high elasticity for dilatation. The vein you are referring is median cubital vein or basilic vein. This is one of the large vein accesible for injections. The colour of the vein will be blue and you can see them that is normal for veins.

In case of aneurism the blood vessel may be dilated. This can be confirmed by doing doppler scan. So I advise you to get done doppler scanning once just to ruleout aneurysm. Otherwise no need to worry for it.

I hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask for any further queries. I will be glad to answer them.

Wish you good health.

Regards
