Question: My sons CBC came back with a UIBC OF 16, a serum iron value of 306 and iron saturation of 95% what deduction can you make from this? He has not experienced any susptoms of pheocrchromocytoma. Only he has had a swollen submandibular gland for a couple of months. No lethargy, high blood pressure or anxiety.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Your son's iron level is slightly high with low binding capacity but nothing to worry. It is common and it is seen in many asymptomatic persons. If he doesn't have any symptoms then no treatment is required for that.

He may have siledenitis or salivary gland tumour. He should take a course of antibiotics for that. If it doesn't respond to treatment then ultrasound examination and fine needle aspiration cytology is needed to search exact cause.

Pheochromocytoma is the tumor of adrenal gland. He has no chance of that.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.

So the vit d deficiency is not related to the iron issue? Is this deficiency serious? Should we see a hematologist in XXXXXXX where we live?

Brief Answer:
Vitamin D deficiency has no relation with your iron.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Vitamin D deficiency has no relation with your iron. If you have vitamin D deficiency then you should take vitamin D supplements. No need to consult hematologist for that. It is not a cause of big worry. Check your vitamin D level and if it is low then take supplements accordingly.
