What Causes Slightly Elevated BP While On Aspirin?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Sep 2015
Question: I am an XXXXXXX male 50 yr. old who exercises 5x(cardio and strength training) a week and does yoga about 2X per week. I started taking low dose aspirin about 2 weeks ago and my blood pressure is now averaging about 140/95. My BP was always in the 120/80 area.

What could it be? I have been working on lowering cholesterol which is 229 by eating more fiber(oatmeal, fruits and less red meat). My weight is 229 lbs.

How can I lower my BP?

Brief Answer:
Need medicines and follow up

Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic

BP in most cases is inherited (so called Essential Hypertension). Rarely could a cause be found. Extensive investigations are not done unless the onset is in the young age – they are cumbersome, not cost effective and have low rates of success

You are already having an appreciable life style. Non-drug measures have a definite but mild effect… they can reduce only by 5 mm Hg. Your pressure might have been higher, but for your life style…. You must aim for a BP of 130/80 mm Hg. You need drugs .
Reduce the salt in food / especially salty food like pickles and packed foods…
See your care provider – have basic investigations like ECG, Sugar, Lipids, Electrolytes, Kidney function.
You will need medicines to control. Generally, ARB (angiotensin Receptor Blocker) or ACEI (Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitor) is the first choice and safe Your doctor will give appropriate prescription… . Follow up regularly – for proper control and dose adjustment.
You may need drugs for cholesterol too – if the levels are high after 2 months
You ought to reduce your weight… what is your height?

Good luck
God bless you
