What Causes Slight Nausea, Vertigo And Spinning Of Head?

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Mar 2016
Question: Sometimes in the morning when I am getting out of bed I can be wobbly. This symptom may be accompanied by just a very slight degree of nausea. Usually things get better as the day goes on.
Last July this all began with some vertigo, spinning of the head, again either at night while lying down or attempting to get out of bed..
Eventually that went away but Stemitil and Kerc (?) tablets were not very effective.
Last year a head scan showed no cancer. Heart scan, chest xray were both OK. Spine was in good order. Neck showed no wear and tear. Blood pressure is controlled by one Coversyll a day 5mg.

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your symptoms may be most likely related to inner ear problems. Since the head CT scan and spine were normal this exclude neurological and cervical spine disorders.

If you were my patient I would recommend to do the audiogram in order to confirm /exclude inner ear problems.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

Thankyou Doctor.
If we assume for the time being this IS a balance /inner ear problem, could this have been started by/exacerbated by, weight training and calisthenics if these exercises are too hard? The calisthenics include dips on parallel bars and chin-ups on an overhead bar.
I enjoy doing both weights and bodyweight exercises and both have great benefits but there would be no point in continuing them if they are causal of balance problems. So should I cease?
I only do two sessions per week one of 20 mins; the other of 45 mins. duration. This latter is done in the presence of a personal trainer.

My second questions if much of a corollary: Could these exercises be causing a stiff neck region which in turn brings on the lack of balance.?

As you may have guessed the medication I listed in my initial question should have read SERC.
Thankyou again and after this I shall leave you in peace.

Hi back,

My opinion is that you should do an ENT specialist consult with an audiogram to find out what is causing your problems. Only then we may judge about weigh lift and calisthenics exercise.

If you were my patient I would recommend to continue with moderate weight lifting. Avoid excessive physical training till you will do the above mentioned examinations.

Hope this will be of help!
