Brief Answer: Rule out hepatitis or liver inflammation Detailed Answer: Dear patient, Thanks for the query. There could be several causes for the discomfort, including liver inflammation from any etiology (infection, toxic damage including medications); rarely, a person that has had a gall bladder removed can still develop stones within the ducts inside the liver. Other than a full physical examination, your provider would probably want to start ordering some basic tests, such as ALT, AST, bilirrubin, and CBC; he may be interested in a repeat abdominal ultrasound. Hope that helps, wish you the best, Dr Brenes-Salazar MD Mayo Clinic
