Posted on Thu, 7 May 2015
Question: Hi, I have a red rash area that runs from my pubic area onto my him and butt. It is itches, not like crazy but annoying. I went to the doctor and she prescribed me athlete's foot powder and Terbinafine Hydrochloride Cream 1%. Unfortunately, it does not help and it still spreading and itches.
She said that she is not sure what is it and now she had prescribed me a steroids. I am on high blood pressure medications and i know that increased blood pressure is one of the side effects of that steroid.
Please, help me to figure out what is that and how to cure it.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Contact dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have taken note of your query and I have also reviewed the Image.

This does not look like a fungal infection.

I suggest a possibility of contact dermatitis to undergarment cloth, probably to fabric or chemicals used in processing (if it was a new one).

Another reason is that the soap/ detergent used for laundry was not washed off properly and probably that has irritated the skin.

You can avoid Oral steroid. Rather I suggest you to use a topical moderately potent steroid cream e.g either fluticasone propionate 0.05% Or triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% cream.

An OTC Oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once daily will provide you symptomatic relief from itching and discomfort.

Thank you. Are these creams can be purchased over the counter or need to be prescribed? What is OTC Oral antihistamine - cetirizine? Is it tablets or cream and can it be purchased over the counter as well?
Thank you very much.

Brief Answer:
Topical steroid cream + tablet cetrizine

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dmitriy.

I am not absolutely sure but I guess either triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% cream Or a similar potency topical steroid e.g betamethasone valerate 0.1% cream, should be available Over the Counter.

You can inquire about these from a nearby drug store.

Cetrizine is an Oral antihistamine. It is a tablet. It is available over the counter.
