What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Chest Pain In An Elderly Person?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jun 2017
Question: I run out of breath when I am climbing stairs to the second floor of my house. I have to stop midway and take a minute rest before climbing back up again.

I had a stress test done. The doctor is recommending angioplasty or possibly stent to clean some partially blocked arteries.
I am a 72 year old man. I had double bypass surgery done in 2001. The doctor at that time had decided to leave some partially clogged arteries alone.
Do you think angioplasty is necessary in my case or are there some medicines I can first try to resolve my shortness of breath problem? I am not experiencing any chest pains. I am a little overweight but otherwise normal in health.

Brief Answer:
With blocked and symptomatic heart arteries, angioplastic is the way to go!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for contacting us.

I have reviewed your information fully. No drugs would be able to address the blocked arteries. Angioplasty would uplift this and put a stent to allow for free or improved blood floe. We do not have any medications that can do that at this time. Most medications would prevent build up and others reduce the amount of work done by the heart which would not address this exact problem of shortness of breath that you have reported.

In all, I suggest that you get angioplasty over any other form of drugs for best results at this time.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
