Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Gastroenteritis is infection/inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract resulting in all or some of the following symptoms- loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain

The most important aspect of management of gastroenteritis would be: (1) preventing or treating dehydration- this would involve the use of oral rehydration fluids or sport drinks (also contain essential electrolytes).

Need to replace fluid loss with diarrhea

Fluid and electrolyte loss would cause weakness

(2)hold off solid food until reach a 4 to 6 hour period with no diarrhea

When restart eating use small amounts of bland food initially

(3)probiotics- these help to replace normal intestinal bacteria and speed up resolution of diarrhea

(4)there are anti diarrheal agents as well such as pepto bismol, lomotil which can be used if needed

(5)continue any medication for acid reflux

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Brief Answer:
not likely

Detailed Answer:
HI

Stomach cancer would not present with soft stools because bowel movements are related to the intestines not the stomach so this symptom does not point to this.

In terms of the reflux, reflux is very very common and it is rare for it to be associated with cancer.
In the long term , in persons who have very long standing history of reflux changes can occur that increase the risk of cancer but this occurs after many many years of severe reflux.
This change is called barretts esophagus

The endoscopy will show if the reflux has caused any damage ( such as bruising or ulceration ). It would also be able to assess for cancer as well though it is not likely

If any early changes are present then they can be treated

Please feel free to ask anything else

Hello Again,

I have had the diahrrea for almost a week now. My stools come out loose soft and smell really bad. Even my gas has an awful smell. Someone told me it could be Amebiasis. I did just come back from Guatemala and maybe the food or water was contaminated. What doctor should I go to do a stool test?

Brief Answer:
can be done by your family doctor

Detailed Answer:
HI

A stool test can be conducted by any doctor.

Your GP can give you the container which would then hold the sample that is to be taken to the lab for analysis
