Posted on Tue, 3 Nov 2015
Question: hi

i have been getting sharp pin pricks and burning sensations over my body mainly my thighs and my upper arms, occasionally my scalp, i dont know whether this is me being too anxious and being too attumed to my bodys sensations or there is a another factor.

i have had an mri done of my lower body which has revealed nothing.

i also have pain in my extremeties like my toes and sometimes my fingers and even my nether regions sometimes, i dont knw whether this is related.?

Ihave also had a cystoscopy which cam out as normal.

i have seen numerous dermatologists to see if this is a skin issue which has been ruled out.

Brief Answer:
Peripheral neuropathy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Peripheral neuropathy should be investigated further as a possible cause of your symptoms.

Conditions that may manifest with peripheral neuropathy include nutritional deficiencies of vitamins ( mainly B12 ), side effects of drugs, diabetes, prolonged use of alcohol, diseases such underactive thyroid, kidney and liver diseases, etc.

First, there is need for a neurological examination, in order to narrow the possible causes of your symptoms.

Nerve conduction study and EMG together with blood tests to evaluate above mentioned disorders, also help in achieving/excluding this condition.

If peripheral neuropathy excluded as the possible condition that is causing your symptoms, then anxiety and stress disorder should be considered as the culprit.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

hi

i have had nerve conduction tests and EMG carried out and they were all fine, so i am assuming it is probably related to stress or anxiety or vitamin deficiency??

what do you think i should check next.

thanks

Brief Answer:
Follow up.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Vitamin B1, B6 and B12 levels should be checked next together with blood tests about liver and kidneys functions.

If these tests result negative, then anxiety and stress disorder should be evaluated as the most probable cause of your symptoms.

Hope I helped you.

Best regards.
