What Causes Sharp Pain Inside Veins Post Blood Donation?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: I woke up with a sharp pain in the vein post blood donation about 9 hours ago. It seems to be traveling up the arm now about 3 inches above puncture site. Could the needle have remained in the arm? A new device was used that cloaked the visual of seeing the needle exit; a blue plastic sleeve that was supposed to snapmechanically extract the metal while keeping the process hidden. I fear the needle remained in my vein. I've never had pain post donation before.

Brief Answer:
Thrombophlebitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

I understand that you are concerned about the needle remaining inside the vein, it is least likely for it to happen as when the needle is removed the entire thing comes out, if you have still worried I suggest you to get an x ray done to see for the left over needle

The most probable cause for the pain is thrombophlebitis which is nothing but inflammation of the vein because of the needle. I suggest you to apply thrombophob ointment over the area. This will give you some pain relief.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
