I woke up last night with a sharp pain on the right side back of my head. It is like a lightning pain that consistently happens about every minute. I am not dizzy or feel ill in any way.

Brief Answer:
Measure the blood pressure. Occipital neuralgia to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

In my opinion, first is necessary to evaluate your blood pressure, since if it is high, may cause occipital headaches.

Occipital neuralgia is another condition to consider in your casIt is related to the nerves from upper neck feeding the back and top of the head being compressed/pinched.

If blood pressure is normal, you can use Aleve for the pain.

Consider also to see your Doctor about further evaluation and treatment.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
