What Causes Sharp Pain In The Left Leg?

Question: 51 year old white male. Western European heritage. Presenting problem: Almost whitish pale feces for 2 days, excruciating left leg pain: sharp, brief like getting stabbed by knife down to bone. 10 on pain scale to the point of causing sweat and nausea, but temporary pain only during movement of left leg. Pain center moves from behind the knee to deep gluteous XXXXXXX to deep center of gastronemius where soleus lays. Sometimes causes residual tingling in foot after pain subsides and pain somtimes totally subsides and other times remains as ache. Have taken dhea as supplement as well as sytropine for a long time. Also take mens one a day and occassionally Testorone supplement pills. Ht 5'11" weight 300lbs but still jog and lift weights. Sedentary student full time grad student life style for last 3 years other than working out. A lot of stress in life with moving, new borns, and job changes. No history of hep A, B, or C in immediate family last physical two years...no problems. BP typical is 130/88, O2 is 97, HR 90

Based on your description of the pain, the site involved and other associated symptoms you mentioned, I believe it to be radicular pain.

Radicular pain occurs in extremities due to compression of the nerve supplying them. Could be unilateral or bilateral. The nerve compression usually occurs at the spinal cord level. Most common cause of such compression are pressure on the nerve by defective intervertebral discs or due to defect in the spinal vertebrae.

The only and gold standard test to rule out above cause is Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spine.

Do not wait more, as if it is due to compression this may worsen over time leading to weakness in the affected limb.
