Question: I know a 15 yr old who has presented with anemia RBC count 5,weight loss unintentional, and mild abdominal discomfort. . ? Ovarian cyst. Mother is telling me she looks jaundiced. She is adopted child from China, so may be from anemia. She has not been feeling well for approximately 2 months. Normally very healthy . In November she suffered a muscle pull in her neck and chest area after trying to lift weights that were too heavy for her. In December they thought she had the flu. She has not been back to normal since, missing a lot of school , loss of appetite, constipation. Mom telling me that her acetone is high. I am a nurse friend and would appreciate any thoughts on what this might be. She has been admitted to a hospital in New Mexico.

Brief Answer:
Further details needed.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query. I would insist on getting the following tests done:
* Complete blood count with blood smear
* Ultrasonography of whole abdomen

The presence of acetone indicates a state of starvation which occurs if the child is not feeding well. A further evaluation is needed in order to find the underlying cause.

If you could share the reports of the above as well as the doctors' notes, I could guide you further.

Regards
