What Causes Severe Stomach Pain And Vomiting With Normal Test Results?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: I had a fundoplucation done 4 years ago, got violently ill for 5 months, with severe stomach/epigastric pain, severe nausea and vomiting. I had just about every test done, and the doctors could not find anything wrong. The only thing they could find was that i was severely depressed. I just had an EGD done with biopsies a week ago. At night around 7 or so, I am getting this stomach/epigastric pain that I had 4 years ago. The doc thinks my stomach isnt emptying well. What could be the cause of this pain? Im on nexium, bentyl, wellbutrin, riboflavin in the morning. Im on zantac, bentyl, wellbutrin, cymbalta, xyzal, ambien, iron, vit. D, prenatal vitamin at night.

Brief Answer:
Unexplained physical problems can be psychological

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.

I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.

The kind of pain that you are describing could be due to plenty of reasons. However as the investigatjons have come normal, psychological cause behind this pain should be seriously considered. When we say psychological, there is no denial of the illness. Illness does exist but the cause is not physical.
In suchbcases other than the antidepressants that you are on like cymbalta and welbutrin I would suggest that you should insist on biofeedback therapy and other relaxation therapies to modulate the pain. These therapies help even when the cause is physical.
Both these therapies are taken up by clinical psychologist and involve multiple sittings . Usually you need to take 5-6 weekly sittings and regular relaxation exercises at home.
Further there is a new medication called opipromol acting on the sigma receptors for such pain disorders, a novel way of action. You may discuss this option with your treating psychiatrist who can help you with a local.prescrition.
I understand that it is taking time to get relief but keep patience and keep going ahead.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.

If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

I went to see me nurse practioner today who helps me through my depression and manages me medications. She said that I should contact my GI physician and to let him know. My husband doesnt help my situation either. He always wants me to say that Im feeling great which at times I do. I dont even tell him when I have to see a doctor because he is going to make a big deal out of it. I hurt me shoulder at work back in January, and its still not exactly healed up. I just had a follow up with an independent medical examiner, and he said I will need another cortisone shot, and my ortho. might have to manipulate it for me to get my full ROM back. My husband says he is not going to let him do surgery. My husband doesnt trust any kind of doctor. If he says he is good to go see, then Im ok, but if it is someone he doesnt like, and just likes to hand out pills all the time, then he wont let me see them again. He wants me to work all the time, clean, fix him lunch and dinner, but he has a fit when I ask him he needs to do something for me. Im sorry for going on, and on. I think I will contact me GI physician in the morning.

Stressful life

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I understand that you have plenty of stress at work as well as in the family. Along with the medicines that you have taken, biofeedback therapy will also certainly help you with the GI symptoms as well as with your current depression and anxiety.
Hope this helps,
Kind regards
