Question: I have severe stomach gas at night when asleep with accompanying severe headaches. I have been on prednisone for a long time for RA but have been weaned off for a month or so. I understand that I'm experiencing withdrawal from the prednisone. Is this true?

Brief Answer:
Fiunctional bowel decline, needs supportive care

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Stomach discomfort with bloating at age of 87 with history of rheumatoid arthritis and use of steroids and NSAIDs, this is likely due to functional bowel decline both age related as well as an adverse effect of antiinflammatory properties of corticosteroids.
Treatment is mostly supportive like use of motility enhancing medications like metoclopramide, itopride etc or phazyme ( simethicone ) you have been already using. use of fiber and fluids and taking some antacid like nexium etc will help. Nutshell, its a functional bowel decline needs supportive care.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
