What Causes Severe Pain In The Shoulder And Arm While Sleeping?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Feb 2017
Question: For the past 2 - 3 weeks I have been having severe pain after / during sleep. The pain mostly (80%) in my shoulder and arm, though sometimes in my leg and ankle. It affects both sides of my body, but I would say it's 85% on the right side of my body. My arm also falls alseep a lot, but this is less concerning than the actual pain, which is becoming intolerable.

Internet research tells me that I should adjust my pillows and try changing positions, such as sleeping on my back. I've tried to do so, but nothing I do with my pillows seems effective and I can only sleep on my sides. I have to change sides several times during the night.

Brief Answer:
Get medical evaluation first.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HealthcareMagic.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

In my opinion, besides changing sleep position and pillow, since the pain is severe, conditions such degenerative disc diseases, spondylosis of spinal column, etc. should be considered even to be excluded.

Please discuss with your primary care Doctor about getting evaluated medically and by imaging studies about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if i can guide you further.

Greetings.
