What Causes Severe Pain In The Right Leg?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Jul 2017
Question: am about to to leave on a flight from new york to XXXXXXX The last long flight i was in wad from XXXXXXX to new zealand and a few hours into the flight i had severe pain in my right leg. I stretched and walked a good deal and even jogged in the bathroom using my fit bit to make sure i was really getting the steps but the pain was still there. We got off the flight and the pain subsided. I have an hip impingment but i do well by doing yoga and staying fit to keep the symptom minimal. i was wondering if this was due to impingement or something else and what i could do to avoid this on my upcoming flight

Brief Answer:
Rule out muscle strain, clot

Detailed Answer:
Hi there

Thanks for the query

If the pain was in the hip region it could be due to muscle strain due to sitting position for a long time.

If the pain was in the calf then you need to be v careful to rule out clots or Deep vein thrombosis.

Avoid squeezing or massaging the limb. Apply warm packs to the affected region. Do get tested for Bleeding time, Clotting time, PT, aPTT, INR to rule out risk of Clotting.

Do get an Xray and MRI of the hip to rule out impingement and other causes.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries. Regards,

Brief Answer:
Compression stockings

Detailed Answer:
I suggest you get a 2D colour Doppler scan to rule out clots as well. You can wear compression stockings for the flight.
