default
Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: My periods are always painful but today I am having a lot of pain on the right lower quadrant. My period just started today. Is it normal to just have the pain on one side?

Also is it normal to have leg pain when you have your period? Sometimes my legs hurt so bad when I get my period. What causes this?

Brief Answer:
Explanation is given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query to HealthcareMagic.

I have read your question carefully and understand your health concern.

Pain in one part of lower abdomen during periods can suggest for most probably ovarian cyst , most commonly endometriosis.

Hence after your periods get over, you should get an ultrasound scan done.

Pain in your legs during periods are due to release of brain pain messenger such as prostaglandines . In this scenario, pain usually spreads from uterus to your legs .

Hence there is nothing to worry.
You can use painkillers (eg. Paracetamol 650mg thrice daily or Ibuprofen 400mg twice daily after food for next 2-3 days).

Hope I was helpful.
Feel free to ask in case of any further doubts.

Best regards
