What Causes Severe Pain In The Legs When Bending The Knees?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Dec 2016
Question: Hi, I'm a 57 yr old male in relatively good health. But in the last 10 days or so, I have had pretty intense muscle pain in both my legs in the thigh and hamstring muscles when I get up or sit down, and also bending over to pick up anything. As I walk normal, the pain goes away, but as soon as I sit longer then a few minutes or bend to get something, the pain comes back. The pain is a sharp, flaring pain in both legs, most intense in the lower buttocks, upper thigh. I have had plenty of pulled muscles before and this is nothing like that especially it is happening in both legs at the same time. I'm wondering if you can point me in the right direction in how to deal with this.

Brief Answer:
Can be nerve root compression at lumbar spine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.

An intense pain in both the legs specially on sitting or bending down is likely to be related to a mild nerve root compression at the level of lumbar spine. An MRI scan of the lower back will help in proper diagnosis.

You need to avoid forward bending and consult an orthopedician for proper investigations and treatment. Back strengthening exercises will help.
I hope this answers your query.
