What Causes Severe Pain In The Arm And Numbness In The Leg?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Nov 2016
Question: I have having left arm pain, more on the shoulder side till elbow, at times it stretches till wrist as well. I am having this pain from past 15 days. It started with slight numbness in the lower leg and pain in the left arm around 3 weeks back.

How did it started:

I had cut a green chilli and am allergic to that juice, same day I had pain in the three fingers , which I have used to cut green chilli, the pain was felt with some heat sensation in the fingers till next morning. After that it went fine, I assumed that this was over. post this I have started with some numbness in both the lower legs along with the feet, though the numbness was too mild and it only occurs when in rest position. While I walk there is no numbness. I went to Neuro and he has suggested me to take CCM (Calcium) , Evion 400 mg and GLA.M tablet for 2 weeks. The numbness in the legs has reduced, but it is still there while on rest position. The pain in the left arm more towards the shoulder area still persists. It is difficult to work in office when there is a pain in the left arm. I consulted neuro again, he has added folate tablet to the prescription. I have also consulted Ortho he has consulted me to take anti-inflammatory for 5 days and told me to continue with Neurobin forte. I am confused and not sure how can get rid of this left arm pain, the type of pain is towards the shoulder and has an impact till elbow. It gives me a feeling that as if I have pulled something very hard or it is the kind of pain when someone exercise very hard and muscles gets pulled up. At times, I feel some cold sensation also in the shoulder. Please suggest..

Brief Answer:
Take treatment as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
At present you are having frozen shoulder or cervical radiculopathy with neuropathic symptoms in lower limbs.
You need to continue pain killers with muscle relaxant like etoricoxib or Aceclofenac with thiocholchicoside or tizanidine.
Pregabalin or gabapentin or amitryptiline can be used for pain modulation.
Avoid lifting heavy objects.
Vitamin B 12 and calcium supplements can be taken.
No investigation is required at present but xray cervical spine may be done if not improving.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
