Question: 17 year old pianist/ballet dancer with shoulder pain that flares up every few weeks;lasts for a week;is as debilitating as a migraine;pain shoots up her neck and recently has started to travel down her arm;shoulder appears lifted when she's in pain;cannot function with everyday life tasks;has severe mood issues due to living with pain. Would say that it is some form of repetitive motion issue except for the part where the pain comes and goes. Lives in the XXXXXXX area and needs an excellent doctor and hopefully some type of diagnosis from you.

Brief Answer:
It is cervical spondylitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that you are having cervical spondylitis. In this disease there is nerve compression in the neck and it is common in dancers. Pain usually radiates from shoulder to fingers and some time there is complains of parasthesia. I would recommend you following.
1. Get a MRI scan of your neck to confirm the diagnosis. This will tell us how much nerve compression is there. According to that we can plan further management.
2. If diagnosis is confirmed than you will need lifestyle modifications. For example voiding neck movements, sudden bending, keeping neck in same position for long time. Avoid using very high pillow, driving for long hours.
3. Physiotherapy in form of traction to neck and neck muscle strengthening exercises.
4. Tablet Pregabalin and Methylcobal one daily after discussing with your doctor.
You can share your MRI report with me, I will try my best to help you.
Thanks.
